Couples Therapy

If I am not for myself, then who is for me?
When I am for myself, what am I?
If not now, when?
-Hillel

Couples therapy consists of face to face meetings between the therapist and both individuals in the couple. The first few sessions will be an assessment period where the focus will be on looking at the presenting issues and situation in the context of each individual's relationships with others. Treatment will include exploration of alternative ways to deal with the problems identified and/or provide a renewed focus for pursuing your goals.

The goals of couples therapy typically involve learning how to talk with your partner in a way that they can hear and understand you, and learning to appreciate each other as a separate individual. Kirsten works with the couple to observe the nuances of your communication style. She will help you to identify hidden feelings in order to facilitate better understanding, and focus on how past relationships in your family of origin affect your current relationships.
